FARRELL, BRANCH, RICE, GRAY UNITE FOR INDIA BENEFIT

Perry Farrell, Michelle Branch, Damien Rice and Macy Gray will join top Indian music acts for "One Night for India," a charity concert event to benefit the fight against the emerging HIV/AIDS crisis in India. The show, which will mark the first time major music and film stars from India share the stage with Western headliners, will take place at UCLA Pauley Pavilion June 8.

Talvin Singh, Nitin Sawhney and Karsh Kale will be among the Indian stars who join them on-stage.

Proceeds from the event will directly benefit The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and former President Bill Clinton's American India Foundation. The show will be filmed and recorded for DVD/CD and television distribution throughout the world.

"This is an unprecedented cross-cultural affair designed to showcase the power of the Indian and Western entertainment industries in raising the world's awareness of the AIDS pandemic facing India," said Mark Porter, event co-founder and co-chair of One Night Foundation.

Ticket prices for the event range from $25 for single tickets to $500 for VIP packages and go on sale Friday, April 30 through Ticketmaster and the event's official website, www.onenightforindia.com.

Globally, India is second only to South Africa in terms of the overall number of people living with AIDS. A 2002 report by the World Health Organization predicted 20 to 25 million AIDS cases in India by 2010, more than any other country in the world.

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was created to reaose resources to fight these diseases, and to direct those resources to areas of greatest need. Since 2001, the Global Fund has attracted $ 4.7 billion in financing through 2008. In its first two rounds of grant-making, it has committed $1.5 billion in funding to support 154 programs in 93 countries worldwide and has spent over $132 million in India in 2003.

The American India Foundation (AIF) was founded and is chaired by former President Clinton, and is devoted to accelerating social and healthcare change in India by connecting communities and resources across the U.S. and India.
