RAC ON A ROLL IN GROKSTER CASE

Fresh off filing their Amicus Brief with the Supreme Court in the Grokster case, the Recording Artists' Coalition is urging artists to sign on to a second Brief they will deliver to the Court.

The Supreme Court decided to take the case last December after RAC had 20 artists sign the original brief, including Jimmy Buffett, Babyface, Bush's Gavin Rossdale, Sheryl Crow, Brooks & Dunn, Bonnie Raitt, the Eagles, the Dixie Chicks, Stevie Nicks, the Dead's Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart, Phil Vassar and Patty Loveless.

"The Grokster case is arguably the most important copyright case of our time," said RAC National Director Rebecca Greenberg in an Action Alert. "Its outcome will directly affect the future well-being of recording artists and songwriters. The unauthorized P2P systems facilitate the most massive campaign of copyright infringement in history. The creators of these systems often earn millions of dollars while paying artists nothing."

Somewhere, Bob Lefsetz is having a conniption.

The RAC will file another Brief, being prepared by its legal counsel Jay Rosenthal, when the Court hears the case.
