ONE-DAY SALES: NELLY’S SWEAT/SUIT IS XXXL

Simultaneous Funky/Freaky Releases
Bring the Mad Crazy Sales, Playa
In case anyone was wondering, Nelly’s still got that "Pimp Juice."

After one day on sale, his simultaneously released Sweat and Suit (Fo Reel/Universal) are on track to sell over 400k each before the week is out, according to early reports from national accounts.

Of course, no one could have guessed that two albums from the king of St. Louis party rap (one up and crunk like you’re used to, the other on the smoother, more romantic tip) would sell in mass quantities—He only brought us “Country Grammar” and “Hot in Herre,” and his last album only sold 6.2 million in the U.S., after all.

Let’s just put it this way: The man has a way with a hook, and like the Pied Piper leading a city’s worth of rats to their watery deaths, Nelly is bringing his peeps to the cash registers in major numbers.

Sweat and Suit will, of course, debut at #1 and #2 on next week’s chart. But the order in which they will appear is still an open question. Early reports give Suit a slight lead at this point, but like everything else, that could easily change by week’s end.

Look for this week’s Top Three, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw and Ray Charles, to still be in the Top Five mix next week, with Anita Baker also a contender at this point. Stay tuned to see how they shake out.
