S.W.A.T. FLIES TO THE TOP OF THE BOX OFFICE

A pair of ’70s remakes were the two biggest movies of the week, with the adaptation of the cop show S.W.A.T., starting Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell taking in $37 million, while Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan’s Freaky Friday brough in $22.3 million over the weekend, bringing its total since opening last Wednesday to $33.2 million.

Last week’s top move, American Wedding, dropped to third place with $15.1 million. Apple pies everywhere are a little less scared.

S.W.A.T. stars Jackson as a badmother—shut yo’ mouth—who trains a new special weapons and tactical unit that includes Farrell, LL Cool J and Michelle Rodriguez. Freaky Friday is a remake of the 1976 Jodie Foster film, which was original “parent and child switch bodies and lives” movies where everyone learns an important lesson. (Though Vice Versa, starring Fred Savage and Judge Reinhold was perhaps the finest artistic achievement of the genre.)
