WEEK IN PREVIEW: HAT’S ALL, BROTHER, FOR ALAN JACKSON

Arista Nashville Country Star Will Top 320k for #1 Slot, Followed by Dashboard Confessional
Where were you when the lights went out and Alan Jackson’s new greatest hits album hit #1?

The Arista Nashville country music star’s Greatest Hits Volume II will bow at the top of the charts this week with sales that should be in the 320k range. Obviously, last week’s blackout on the East Coast and Midwest hasn’t affected his overall sales total. Must be that most country music fans don’t live in the Northeast, and apparently a majority of them had enough electricity to play their new Jackson discs...even if it was generated by a mule harnessed to a water wheel.

That gives Joe Galante and Butch Waugh’s RCA Nashville Label Group another best-selling album, following in the hoof prints of recent chart successes Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn, Lonestar and Kenny Chesney.

Jackson will be followed by Vagrant/TVT/Interscope emo star Chris Carrabba, aka Dashboard Confessional, whose new album, A Mark*A Mission*A Brand*A Scar, looks set for the #2 slot with first-week sales around 120k.

Four-time chart-topper Bad Boy/Universal’s Bad Boys II soundtrack looks ensconced in the #3 slot, with around 100k in sales. Roc-A-Fella/IDJs State Property Presents The Chain Gang Vol. 2, featuring Beanie Sigel and label cohorts Jay-Z, Lil’ Cease, Young Guns, Dirt McGirt (formerly Old Dirty Bastard), Twista and Oschino, looks set to battle for the Top Five, with around 70k in sales.

Evanescence, Beyonce, Chingy, Norah, Now 13 and 50 Cent will all contend for the Top 10, with Hilary Duff’s Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack on Walt Disney Records doubling its weekly sales, gaining momentum from the release of the DVD.

In the wonderful world of radio, John Mayer is cleaning up in his second week at Top 40, with big first-week action for Jewel and Fefe Dobson, while R. Kelly crosses from Urban Rhythm.

Radiohead’s "Go to Sleep" (Capitol) looks to edge out Elektra’s Jet, Flip/Geffen’s Cold and RCA’s Dave Matthews for Most Added at PoMo, while Wind-up’s Seether looks to go mano a mano with early adds for TVT’s Sevendust for Most Added at Active Radio.

Avant’s "Read Your Mind" appears to be the big fish at Urban radio, while Fat Joe/P. Diddy and Dre’s "Girl I’m a Bad Boy," the new track from the Bad Boys II soundtrack, will vie with Beyonce, Missy Elliott, et. al’s "Fighting Temptations" and Monica’s "Get It Off" for Most Added at Rhythm Crossover.

And let’s hope we can keep the lights on for another week.
