A remake of a nearly 30-year-old movie brought in nearly $30 million, as the
Texas Chainsaw Massacre slashed its way to #1 at the box office this weekend. The movie stars
Jessica Biel, and was good for $29.1 million in its opening weekend.
Biel and her co-stars battled Leatherface and his crew of cannibals, and mostly lost, but relax, it’s only a movie…based on a true story.
Quentin Tarantino’s
Kill Bill, Volume 1 dropped to second with $12.5 million
Also opening this weekend was Runaway Jury, starring Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, John Cusack and Rachel Weisz. Jury, with Brian Koppelman’s co-written screenplay of John Grisham novel, did $12.1 million, landing it in third place. In fifth place was Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River, starring Sean Penn and Tim Robbins, which did $10.4 million.
