IVANA WONDERS HOW CAN YOU BE 2,000 PLACES AT ONCE IF YOU’RE NOWHERE AT ALL

Ivana Does the Grammy Whirl, Welcomes Jacqueline Saturn’s New Child and Finds a "Reason" to Praise Hoobastank

OH, INVERTED WORLD: This past weekend’s Grammy-related festivities had me, in the words of The Polyphonic Spree, "in 2000 places at once." As self-appointed social secretary to 99X goddess Leslie Fram, our evenings were filled with South Beach Diet-busting dinners with the PoMo promo elite, most of whom were handling the approaching threat of career upheaval by steeling their focus to the records they’re working, trying to block out peripheral gossip. There was a debate as to whether it’s better or worse knowing that whatever happens in the next few weeks or months has little to do with individual job performance. Perhaps the news would be less impactful with a golden parachute attached, not that any of us would know. My most quotable friend, Jenni Sperandeo, wondered aloud if the PoMo format was "going the way of Z-rock?" (Wouldn’t that be Neo-Z-rock?)

After hours of conversation regarding the state of the business, it’s important to replenish one’s spirit and energy. Some choose to ply themselves with alcohol, or hole up and watch a week’s worth of TiVo’d entertainment (my usual method). This week, I just wanted to be around other music fans, who were just completely psyched for the chance to see The Shins at one of their two sold-out shows in L.A. It worked—by the next morning, optimism and perspective had returned!

As I type this, Epic’s Jacqueline Saturn is in labor with her first child. I’d figured she’d have the baby in time for the promotion conference call, but no word yet. Definitely in time for the label lunch, though. Typical Jaqueline—she prolonged the baby’s arrival until Incubus’ "Megalomaniac" hit #1 PoMo! The new CD, A Crow Left of the Murder, debuted #1 on the HITS PoMo Chart, finally unseating Linkin Park. Since many of us have received the emails Jacqueline has been sending while in labor, I’m sure she knows KROQ added Modest Mouse’s "Float On" this week, and that WBRU, WLRS and KUCD came in on Phantom Planet’s "Big Brat."

While we spent yesterday trying to recall the level to which we’d embarrassed ourselves at the EMI post-Grammy party, Ted Volk and his team were launching the new Vines single, "Ride," to #1 Most Added with nearly 50 adds, including KROQ, Q101, WBCN, WHFS, Live105, KTBZ, KXTE (!), KPNT, etc. KROQ also added "Warning Sign" by GRAMMY WINNERS Coldplay. Can we take a moment to discuss how incredibly thrilling it is that Coldplay’s "Clocks" won RECORD OF THE YEAR? When truly great, unconventional bands like Coldplay, as well as The White Stripes and OutKast, are acknowledged in this way, it gives me hope.

Elektra’s Bill, Buddy and Mike had a spectacular week with Jet’s new single, "Cold Hard Bitch," reeling in nearly every PoMo station that is known to be persnickety about playing records they consider to be "alternative." (And what format are they again?) Those who know such things are predicting that this song will be even bigger than "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?"

Island’s Howie Miura and Christine Chiappetta have one of the year’s biggest SMASHES at PoMo with Hoobastank’s "The Reason." New adds this week included WHFS, Y100, WXDX, KMYZ, WOCL, WRZX, WWRX, WEND, KTCL and WXEG. Our favorite Island-ers are also ruling PoMo with Jay-Z (who knew?) and Everlast.

After a big Grammy win for non-Classical Producer of the Year, Pharrell continued the celebration as N.E.R.D.’s "She Wants to Move" landed 10 big adds at PoMo, including K-Rock, 99X, WOCL, WPBZ, CD101 and WFNX! The Virgin gang was out in force at last night’s brilliant (and beyond sold-out) Gomez show. Without question, Gomez is poised to be one of the BIGGEST BANDS in the WORLD. And don’t you dare call them a "jam band" in my presence.

One of our reasons for living, "Mad World" by Michael Andrews featuring Gary Jules, had a stupendous week at PoMo, as the newly involved Universal team helped harness WHFS, WBCN, KNRK, WBUZ, WZNE, WHTG, CIMX, KMBY, KUCD and WJSE. This song is unstoppable. Research is through the proverbial roof. Stop wasting precious brain cells overthinking it.

I know I can leave work tonight with a smile on my face because Lenny Diana added The Strokes’ "Reptilia." Nothing could be further from "automatic" at WEDG, which is why we commend him for not waiting until the absolute last minute, just the minute before that. WRAX, KTZO and X-96 were also hard-won adds for our RCA friends. When I have my radio station (a girl needs a fantasy life), The Strokes will be a CORE BAND. That doesn’t mean they’ll have a clue who I am when I meet them for the millionth time, however.

Our dear Reprise friends had a genius week with The Living End’s "Who’s Gonna Save Us?," including Y100, WHFS, Live105, WJBX, KCPX and KFTE!

Who is Him and why did Y100, WDYL, WZNE, WBUZ, KMBY and WRZK "Join Me" this week? Ask Aaron Scott (or Dave Grohl) if you want to know the answer.

Hooray to WFNX for adding Dizzee Rascal’s "Fix Up, Look Sharp" this week!… What is "myctophobia" and how can it be treated? By adding The Darkness’ "I Believe in a Thing Called Love," that’s how! Just ask WARQ and KFRR. Sales exploded to nearly 30k this week! Tickets for the upcoming L.A. show are going for $150 on eBay! In the words of my favorite Hives’ song, "hate to say I told you so."
