ONE-DAY SALES: RETAIL’S ALL SHOOK UP!

The King May Be 25 Years Cold, But Sales Are Hot for His #1 Singles Collection
Fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches for everyone!

According to early reports from national accounts, ELV1S 30 #1 Hits (RCA) is on track to sell well over 500k this week—which means the new compilation celebrating 25 years since God stepped on Elvis Presley’s blue suede shoes and called him to that big pharmacy in the sky is a big ole SMASH!

Indeed, the collection could sell as many as 600k if it ramps up during the week the way Beatles 1 did. Looks like the good folks at RCA won’t be checking into Heartbreak Hotel any time soon.

The return of The King, of course, means that Disturbed’s stay atop the chart will be a short one. But not everyone can say they were outsold by a guy who’s been dead for two and a half decades, so maybe it’s okay.

Also making strong initial showings are India Arie, whose sophomore set, Voyage to India (Universal) should move in excess of 100k, and Columbia rapper Nas, whose Lost Tapes should also hit the 100k mark.

Both of those titles could go even higher: India Arie has full slate of television appearances in front of her, while Nas could begin to feel extra love from independent accounts as the week progresses.

But it really is all about everybody’s hunka-hunka burnin’ love. And if there are any suspicious minds out there thinking this one won’t sell through the holidays, they might want to guess again, because the people evidently still love their King tender—and are willing to tender their hard-earned cash to prove it.

Uhthankyouveruhmuch.
