THEY’VE GOT SOUL AWARDS AND THEY’RE SUPERBAD

Isley Brothers, Alicia Keys Big Soul Train Awards
Alicia Keys better have a big fireplace. She’s got more hardware for the mantle, as the J Records’ superstar took home Soul Train Awards for Best R&B/soul or rap new artist for “Fallin’,” Songs in A Minor won Best R&B/soul Female Album and was named female Entertainer of the Year. This, on top of five Grammys last month. Oh yeah, she also performed at the show.

DreamWorksIsley Brothers also snagged three trophies at the 16th Annual Awards, winning best R&B/soul single and album by a group, band of duo. They took home the male Entertainer of the Year. Wait, that doesn’t sound right—they didn’t take him home, they won the Award for male Entertainer of the Year.

Virgin’s Aaliyah’s “Rock the Boat” won for best female R&B/soul single, while Def Soul’s Musiq Soulchild won best male R&B/soul single for “Love.” Roc-A-Fella/IDJ’s Jay-Z won the best Rap album category for Blueprint.

No need to give away all the winners, but let’s just say that if you’re a Donnie McClurkin fan, you’ll have reason to cheer when the Gospel winner is announced.

The Awards were taped last night in Los Angeles and will air later this month in syndication. Check your local listings for broadcast times in your area and Don Cornelius’ badass suit.
