Punk rock has finally come of age 25 years after its birth, with CBGB alum the Ramones and Talking Heads topping the list of inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation for 2002.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Isaac Hayes, Brenda Lee and Gene Pitney were the others voted into the Hall, and will be honored at the 17th Annual Induction Ceremony, to be held in New York on March 18, 2002 . VH1 will air the ceremony on Monday, March 20 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).

Also being inducted in the "Non-Performer" category is Stax Records co-founder Jim Stewart, while the "Side-men" honoree is guitar legend Chet Atkins.

Executive Director of the Foundation Suzan Evans said this year's class of inductees "reflects the diversity of rock & roll. The honorees represent genres from Memphis soul, early 60s pop, classic rock to the New York punk movement."

Among the performers who appeared on the final nomination ballot, but didn't make the cut, aside from Patti and the Pistols, were AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Jackson Browne, The Chantels, The Dells, the "5" Royales, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Gram Parsons.
