THE SHOW FINALLY GOES ON

Hosted by actor Jimmy Smits and comedian Paul Rodriguez, the low-key press conference replaced the awards ceremony canceled in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Spanish pop singer Alejandro Sanz led the nominees, nabbing four awards, including Best Male Vocalist and Record, Album and Song of the Year honors for his single and album, both titled El Alma Al Aire. Colombian rocker Juanes picked up three awards for Best New Artist, Best Rock Solo Vocal Album for Fijate Bien and Best Rock Song for his single of the same name.

Christina Aguilera, who was originally scheduled to host the awards show with Smits, won Best Female Pop Vocal Album for Mi Reflejo, but could not attend the ceremony, due to illness. Luckily, Rodriguez's offer to sing "Genie In A Bottle" in her place was squelched when the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences decided to forego performances for today's ceremony.

Best Traditional Tropical Album: Celia Cruz (Siempre Vivir)

Best Ranchero Album: Pedro Fernndez for (Yo No Fui)

Best Grupero Album: Limite (Por Encima De Todo)

Best Pop Album By A Duo Or Group With Vocal: Armando Manzanero (Duetos)

Best Merengue Album: Chichi Peralta (...De Vuelta Al Barrio)

Best Pop Instrumental Album: Nestor Torres (This Side Of Paradise)

Best Regional Mexican Song: Jos Vaca Flores ("Borracho Te Recuerdo")

Best Tropical Song: Kike Santander for "Jurame"
