SWAPPER UPLISTER LAUNCHES WITH $6 MIL

Hopes To Build A Community Of Music Enthusiasts Who Swap...Um...Uh-Oh
Online file-swapping startup Uplister has scored $6 million in first-round funding.

The company develops a Web-based application allowing music fans to create and trade personal playlists, Webnoize reports.

The financing round, which closed in the spring, was led by August Capital, which already has money in Listen.com and Epinions, and includes two other private investors.

Uplister, whose site launched Wednesday (9/27), hopes to build a community of music enthusiasts who submit their playlists and swap them.

Uplister Executive VP Jeremy Silver, formerly VP of new media at EMI, leads the company's charge into the marketplace.

Webnoize says the company hopes to make money at first by selling custom CDs from users' playlists in partnership with custom CD companies. It also hopes to sell downloadable music from the major label groups, among others.
