Fischer will assume the position in January and will report to GetMusic President and CEO Andrew Nibley in New York.
During his tenure at AOL Europe, Fischer acted as Managing Director of CompuServe U.K., which became one of the most profitable ISPs in Europe. Prior to that, Fischer served as president of IN Media International and was a regional manager at Turner International. Fischer began his career in journalism.
Earlier this year, GetMusic unveiled plans to add country-specific content and language to its offerings outside the U.S. The music company struck a deal to provide Bertelsmann with music content for sites in the U.K., Germany, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
"As GetMusic continues to expand its global operations, it is essential to have an international head who understands the business environment overseas and the importance of creating country-specific marketing strategies," said Nibley. "David has an impressive, well-rounded media background, having worked for online and offline organizations both in the U.S. and abroad, which will play a critical role in our continued growth into international markets."
Fischer added, "The music industry is undergoing the most exciting transformation in its recent history, and there is an opportunity to enhance the way audiences interact with their favorite music and artists. I hope to help ensure that GetMusic is at the forefront of those developments."
