BOWIE, MP3.COM INK LICENSING AGREEMENT

The Thin White Duke’s Catalog Now Available For My.MP3.com
Rock chameleon and online music pioneer David Bowie has signed a lucrative deal with MP3.com.

Under terms of the agreement, Bowie and his label, Virgin Music Group Worldwide, have licensed Bowie's catalog for use on MP3.com's now legitimate My.MP3.com.

The online company is in the midst of relaunching its digital locker system, having inked licensing deals with the five major label groups and music publishers.

The service, which came under attack when the major labels claimed it infringed copyrights, allows users to listen to CDs online that they have purchased.

"It's an amazing testament to the Net that MP3.com technology allows someone to have their record collection at their fingertips wherever they are in the world," Bowie said. "The days of traveling with CDs in hand are beginning to grow short."

In conjunction with the deal, MP3.com said it would release an alternative version of Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" to any users who add a Bowie album to their digital locker and agreed to wear Robert Downey Jr.'s Wonder Woman costume in public.
