Citing family and career concerns, country music star Garth Brooks said Thursday (10/26) he plans to retire after releasing and promoting one more album. "I'm here to announce my retirement," Brooks said at a news conference. "I've done my career with the old saying, ‘Burn bright, burn fast,'" he said. Brooks said he didn't want the new album, scheduled for release next summer, to be tagged a "farewell" project. While Brooks will retire, Chris Gaines will continue to live on.

EM GETS 3RD DEGREE FROM THE CANADIAN BACON
Eminem, whose lyrics had prompted the Ontario government to try to stop his entry into Canada, was allowed to perform at a concert in Toronto Thursday (10/26). Detective Rob Cooper of the city's hate crimes unit told Reuters the rapper was granted an entry permit by immigration authorities. After taking the stage, Eminem addressed Valerie Smith, the Toronto resident who filed obscenity charges against him, by saying, "I dedicate this next song to that bitch Valerie Smith." He then launched into the critic-bashing track "The Way I Am," from his multi-Platinum "The Marshall Mathers LP." Apparently, that sensitivity training wasn't all for nothing.

IS LITTLE-KNOWN-ARTIST.COM STILL AVAILABLE?
Singer Michael Feinstein and actress Bridget Moynahan should have control of Internet addresses featuring their names, a United Nations panel ruled Thursday (10/26). Feinstein was granted michaelfeinstein.com, michaelfeinstein.net and purefeinstein.com. All three were registered by PAWS Video Productions of Thousand Oaks, CA. Moynahan, who plays Natasha on HBO's "Sex And The City," was awarded control of bridgetmoynahan.net, registered by Fantastic Sites of Lincoln, NE. The decisions surprised a group of industry insiders who failed at picking the two "celebrities" out of a crowd.

WORD TO YOUR MOTHER
Controversy is the key word as Vanilla Ice gears up for the release of his latest album, "Skabz," but it's not the good kind of controversy. Tall-tale teller Robbie Van Winkle claims his fourth album includes appearances by members of Insane Clown Posse, Soulfly, S.O.D., Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Slipknot, and most importantly Lenny Kravitz. "He's on it," Ice contends. "He did some vocals on a couple of tracks, played drums, guitar, co-produced—he's all over it." A Kravitz spokesperson told MTV.com that while Ice and Lenny are friends and neighbors, Kravitz did not record anything for the album. "Unless," said the spokesperson, "Ice sampled sounds of Lenny asking for a cup of sugar or trimming the hedges."

THE AMAZING MISS C—AND WE DON'T MEAN CONGENIALITY
According to the New York Post, Courtney Love has alienated designer Donatella Versace. Earlier this month, Love agreed to attend Versace's spring-summer show in Milan—with plenty of stipulations. Said one source: "She wanted a private jet, a full-time nanny, several dresses and three assistants. She thought everything was set but when she arrived in Milan, nothing was arranged." Afterwards, Love went backstage to confront Versace. "They both have wicked tempers," said the source about the shouting match the ensued. The fight was especially shocking to some as Donatella and her late brother Gianni helped transform Love from grunge-rocker to Hollywood glam queen. "It is disrespectful. They made her," one source sniffed. That comment naturally upset onetime collaborator Billy Corgan.
