Artist Management Group Urban Division co-chief Mona Scott, who has helped guide the careers of Busta Rhymes, Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, Mobb Deep and Noreaga, has launched Monami Entertainment with the Elektra Entertainment Group.
"This opportunity affords me a wonderful platform to present and develop talent that might otherwise go unrecognized," Scott said. "Monami will concentrate on true classic soul, which has always been a great passion of mine."
The first album to be released on Scott's Monami Records will be from 24-year-old R&B aficionado Jamie Hawkins. The album is due out next year.
Scott was a key part of Violator Management, which her business partner Chris Lightly founded a decade ago. In January, Violator merged with Michael Ovitz's AMG.
Prior to joining Violator, she managed producers Trackmasters.
