Digital Brandcasting Duo’s New Law Firm To Represent Deftones, Napster, The Firm, Others
Top entertainment attorneys Fred Goldring and Ken Hertz, who spent 10 years as partners and founded the music practice for Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman & Warren, have announced the formation of Goldring, Hertz, Lichtenstein & Haft.

Goldring and Hertz will continue to share offices and co-represent motion picture and television crossover clients, such as Will Smith and Mark Wahlberg, with the Hansen firm.

Hertz will be "of counsel" to the new practice in order to spend more time focusing on the pair's non-legal consulting business, which will include his serving as CEO of Digital Brandcasting Corp., an online venture the duo co-founded (hitsdailydouble.com, 5/8).

The music and technology clients—including Alanis Morissette, Courtney Love, Destiny's Child and MP3.com—will be handled by Goldring and Hertz's new company. Other artist clients that will be a part of the new firm include No Doubt, Boyz II Men, Guns N' Roses, the Deftones, Live, Montell Jordan, Patty Loveless, Lee Ann Womack, Herbie Hancock and others. Technology clients include MusicMarc and RedDotNet/Alliance Entertainment. Consulting clients include The Firm, Napster, Yesterdayland and Uprizer, the new venture founded by Freenet creator Ian Clarke.

"We are proud of groundbreaking deals such as the pact between MP3.com and Alanis Morissette, Napster and Limp Bizkit and RedDotNet's deals with the major labels to digitally distribute their content," Hertz said.

Goldring added, "This new structure is a natural evolution of our business and also gives well-deserved recognition to the stature that Seth [Lichtenstein] and Jonathan [Haft] have achieved in the industry. We are grateful to Tom [Hansen], Craig [Jacobson] and Walter [Teller] for giving us our start and look forward to continuing our close working relationship with them."
