KID ROCK CONTINUES
CUSTODY BATTLE

Court Calls Constant Exposure To Bob Seger Music "Cruelty" To Child
Trailer-rapper Kid Rock may have to impress his toughest crowd yet—a Michigan court—as the custody battle for his 7-year-old son wages on.

The Detroit News reports that Macomb County Circuit Judge Donald Miller informed Rock (born Robert Ritchie) and his ex-girlfriend that the court would divide the child's summer vacation time, if the two could not reach an agreement.

Said Miller, during the Wednesday (7/26) hearing: "There's no question in my mind that both parents love this little guy and both parents deserve time with this little guy, but you're going to have to communicate back and forth. I don't want to get involved in this."

Kelley South, mother of Robert Ritchie Jr., alleges that Kid Rock denied her vacation time with their son.

Rock has permanent custody of the boy, whom a 1994 paternity suit proved to be his biological child. A 1997 court order granted South four weeks during the summer months with the boy on the condition she gave at least 30 days prior notice.

Kid Rock said he refused South's recent request because it came less than 30 days beforehand, and

their son was already enrolled in day camp. South's ability to spend time with the boy was questioned, considering she is a full-time autoworker with no remaining vacation time. South told the court her son would spend time with step-siblings at a day-care center while she worked, and the two would spend evenings together.

Earlier this year, South filed motions to regain custody of the child, claiming Rock's fame kept him from spending time with the boy.

South turned down Rock's offer to gain full custody of his diminutive sidekick, Joe C. Explained Rock, "He's the same size as the kid, and can buy his own beer." South reportedly is holding out for a double-wide Fleetwood.
