EMINEM, NSYNC TOP VMA NOMS
WITH 6 APIECE

Chili Peppers, Metallica, Sisqo Nab Five Apiece; Britney, Christina, Macy, D’Angelo Grab Four
Looks like Eminem will be going toe-to-toe with Christina Aguilera after all.

MTV announced the nominees for the Video Music Awards this morning and the Real Slim Shady will face off against Christina, Britney Spears, Sisqo and NSYNC in the Viewer's Choice category. Perhaps that will settle their little tiff once and for all. It's just one of six nominations for both Eminem and NSYNC, whose "The Real Slim Shady" and "Bye, Bye, Bye" (respectively) will also compete against one another for Video Of The Year.

The other Video Of The Year nominees are Blink-182's "All The Small Things," D'Angelo's "Untitled (How Does It Feel)" and Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Californication."

"The Real Slim Shady" was also nominated for Best Male Video, Best Rap Video, Best Direction In A Video and Best Editing In A Video. It could be argued that Eminem actually garnered 6 nominations. The rapper will compete against his collaboration with Dr. Dre, "Forgot About Dre," in the Best Rap Video category.

For NSYNC, "Bye, Bye, Bye" grabbed additional nods for Best Group Video, Best Dance Video, Best Pop Video and Best Choreography In A Video.

Grabbing 5 nominations apiece were Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica and Sisqo. Britney, Christina, Macy Gray and D'Angelo were showered with 4 nominations apiece.

There were a few surprises mixed in with the expected domination of Eminem and NSYNC. Indie queen Aimee Mann was rewarded with 2 nominations—tying her with Limp Bizkit, Korn and Ricky Martin, among others—for "Save Me" from "Magnolia." And Brit band Supergrass grabbed 3 nominations for their surreal video for "Pumping On Your Stereo," including Breakthrough Video.

The 2000 MTV Video Music Awards will be handed out on Sept. 7 at New York's Radio City Music Hall. The show will be hosted by "Scary Movie" writers/stars Shawn and Marlon Wayans.
