What's Really Going On With Scooter Braun's Roll-Up Group and Its Deep-Pocketed Investors?
Recent rumor-mongering has suggested trouble between the
Scooter Braun group—which includes
Drake’s team,
Brandon Creed (
Bruno Mars,
Sara Bareilles)
Jason Owen (
Shania Twain,
Kacey Musgraves) and
Troy Carter (
John Legend,
John Mayer)—and his investors at Kansas City investment group
Waddell & Reed.
But the intimations are untrue; W&R insiders are said to be enamored with the star power of Braun’s team and their big cash flow from earnings.
Legendary Pictures chieftain Thomas Tull, who is also funded in part by W&R and put the Hank Hermann-led firm together with Braun’s ensemble, is thought to be seeking to roll up the Braun group with his company and give these hot creative music types a bigger platform to play on as they venture into film and TV—and expand their representation clientele into areas outside of music.
