Hey, buddy. Have you heard of this Taylor Swift? Well, she’s fucking huge. The Big Machine megastar celebrates another #1 week on the HITS Building Album Sales Chart with 279k, bringing her YTD/RTD to a cool 2.49m.
Tay's 1989 has been out for five weeks, and has been #1 for four of them. That ain't bad.
The race between Tay Tay and Disney’s Frozen for the biggest record of 2014 is still too close to call. The beloved soundtrack is currently #9 with 60k (+193%) in its 53rd week on the chart, bringing its YTD to 3.3m. Elsa better watch her back, ‘cause there’s only room for one blonde princess at the finish line.
A serious buzz continues to surround RCA’s breakout a cappella sensations, Pentatonix, who've climbed to renown with the help of 6.5m+ YouTube subscribers. The wholesome quintet lands just behind Taylor with 207k (+109%) for That's Christmas to Me. Could this holiday set break a million by the year’s end? Only time will tell.
Speaking of the holidays, Black Friday calls for sales bumps galore, as 12 big albums were discounted in iTunes’ $6.99-$7.99 sale. Capitol’s Sam Smith jumps #10-5 with 93k (+182%), 222/Interscope’s Maroon 5 moves #35-15 with 46k (+271%), Roswell/RCA’s Foo Fighters land at #13 with 48k (+17%), Hollywood’s Guardians of the Galaxy hits #14 with 48k (+113%) and Republic’s Ariana Grande glides #41-17 with 43k (+325%).
As you may have expected, Pentatonix and Frozen also reaped the benefits from the aforementioned, uncontrollable burst in consumerism.
Meanwhile, Starbucks staples Warner Bros.’ Idina Menzel (#10, 56k, +72%) and Reprise’s Michael Buble (#11, 51k, +54%) stand strong with their yuletide ear-warmers.
Shady Records’ compilation album, featuring Eminem’s latest single with Sia, “Guts Over Fear,” along with other tracks from Eminem, YelaWolf, Big Sean, 50 Cent and more, lands at #3 with 137k.
The only other debut in the Top 15 was provided by Def Jam’s Rick Ross, who bowed at #6 with 70k.
