It’s been a wonderful start to 2017 for RCA’s SVP Dennis Blair (pictured) and Artie Gentile. This week, Bleachers returned to an astounding response to their new single, “Don’t Take the Money,” which got 50 stations in its first week. The buzzing track is already trending Top 20 and looks like a real big one. It took a bit of time but we have our first new act to reach the Top 10 this year and that’s Missio. Dennis and Artie have done a great job guiding this slacker anthem, “Middle Fingers,” up the charts. The guys continue to set the bar high; Cage The Elephant’s “Cold Cold Cold” is also in the Top 10 and Kings Of Leon’s “Reverend” is now Top 15… The last month or so, we’ve seen a sea of established names releasing new material to the Modern Rock format, but that hasn’t stopped Red’s Scott Burton from impressing us with Reading, U.K.-based Sundara Karma. The highly promising band debuted on the chart this week with their latest single, “She Said,” armed with 40x from influential SiriusXM’s Alt Nation and a rather impressive streaming story as well. Sundara is now on tour here in America and is also fresh off a much-talked-about week at SXSW… Sometimes it takes a bit of time for songs to find their way, but it can be worth it. Another example of that sentiment is Mondo Cozmo’s “Shine.” Island/Republic’s Mike DePippa and Amanda Dobbins have really turned a corner with this one, which is now a Top 15 hit. A Bastille tour and festival plays are on the horizon. Mondo also greatly benefited from a strong SXSW showing, which made a real difference… The good times roll on for Garrett Capone, as Crush Music continues to crush it. This week, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness’ “Fire Escape”—in its 27th week—goes Top 5! Weezer’s new single, “Feels Like Summer,” is quickly on 50 stations and already inside the Top 20. I should also mention New Politics’ “One of Us”—a joint venture with Warner Bros. That one’s already approaching Top 20 after just a few weeks of airplay… Over at Capitol, Greg Marella and SVP Gary Gorman continue to shine, as Cold War Kids’ “Love Is Mystical” goes Top 5 and Bastille’s “Blame” is now inside the Top 10. Look for Gary to have new releases soon from Rise Against and Catfish and the Bottlemen… Dualtone’s Lori Kampa is getting ready to release The Lumineers’ “Angela,” which is truly a brilliant song. The band starts their tour with U2 next month at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena… Warner Bros.’ Rob Goldklang—who always has a bag full of great music—has the return of Royal Blood coming this week. Dan Auerbach’s “Shine on Me” sounds great, and I expect that to have a huge AAA run similar to The Head and The Heart’s latest, “Rhythm & Blues,” which is now Top 20 at Modern Rock. This week, Rob scored Most Added honors with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ latest single, “Goodbye Angels”… Major congrats to Matador’s Risa Matsuki for guiding Spoon’s “Hot Thoughts” to #1 at AAA and now Top 20 at Modern... Columbia’s Brady Bedard and Darice Lee are off to a good start with Dreamcar’s “Kill For Candy” and have some nice airplay building with Coin’s “I Don’t Wanna Dance.”
