It’s Thanksgiving week, which means a shortened work week, as we gear up to celebrate on Thursday, then rest and shop on Friday. It’s also a light week for new music impacting, which gives a number of records another week in rotation to prove themselves. But with sales season fully in play, Justin Bieber is the big winner. His album sold 520k+ in its first week, pulling away from One Direction, which did 400k. This seems to all be a warm up for Adele, however, whose predictions are now somewhere around 3m for her first week; that would break the all-time record of 2.4m set by NSYNC. Rumors are swirling that Rihanna will be dropping a new single this week, to be followed shortly by her eighth album, ANTI. We need superstar acts, and she certainly is one.
For the fifth consecutive week, Drake’s “Hotline Bling” (YMCMB) is the #1 song in the land. He’s been one of this format’s most consistent artists over the last four years. Republic’s Gary Spangler, Davey Dee and Stef Cole also take Post Malone’s “White Iverson” inside the Top 5, gaining 640 spins. Ariana Grande’s “Focus” jumps #18-12, tacking on an additional 550 spins. Drake & Future’s “Jumpman” (YMCMB/A1/Epic/Republic) have an amazing week as well, moving #24-19 and adding 565 spins. Dawin f/Silento’s “Dessert” (Casablanca) climbs #35-30, up 65 spins, while The Weeknd’s “In the Night” (XO) is this week’s highest debut. It leaps #74-31, gaining 833 spins; that also makes it good enough for the biggest increase of the week. Adrian Marcel’s “Take Your Time” (L7), meanwhile, is just outside of the chart and up 70 spins.
The next record in line to take over #1 is “Here” by Def Jam’s Alessia Cara. Rick Sackheim, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness have her at #3, up 625 spins, and she looks to be about two weeks away from the promised land. Big Sean’s “Play No Games” (G.O.O.D.) is at #14, up 165 spins, with Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” (RBMG) right behind at #15. Bieber was up 510 spins and is firing on all cylinders. 2 Chainz’s “Watch Out,” Rick Ross f/Chris Brown’s “Sorry” (MMG) and Jeremih’s “Oui” are all lingering in the mid-40s and looking to debut next week.
Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White take Dej Loaf f/Big Sean’s “Back Up” inside the Top 10 with an increase of 465 spins. This is Loaf’s biggest record to date! They also have J. Cole’s “No Role Modelz” (Roc Nation) at #11, gaining 295 spins. Adele’s “Hello” (XL) moves #26-20 this week, sporting a massive 450 spin increase. There are also a few “Hello” remixes floating around, although I think the original is pretty damn good. I heard one featuring Joe that WKYS D.C. is playing, and that was solid. The Chainsmokers’ “Roses” (Disruptor) moves inside the Top 50, up 105 spins, and could debut next week.
RCA’s John Strazza, Inca and Lori G have Chris Brown’s “Zero” at #9, gaining 255 spins. They also have Tinashe f/Chris Brown’s “Player” at #13, up a cool 300 plays. Bryson Tiller’s “Don’t” debuts this week at #34, thanks to a 135 spin increase. Next up on the chart for them is G Eazy’s “Me Myself and I,” which was up 120 spins this week.
Epic’s Sujit Kundu takes Travi$ Scott’s “Antidote” (Grand Hustle) Top 10 this week. This one just keeps on picking up new believers each and every week; it was also up 385 spins. Meghan Trainor f/John Legend’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” moves #37-33, picking up an additional 80 spins. It’s still Top 10 in single sales on iTunes. And finally, they’re impacting Yo Gotti’s “Down in the DM” this coming week.
