CROSSOVER
I had the pleasure of seeing J Cole perform live at David Letterman this past Thursday, compliments of Ayelet Schiffman and Columbia records. The crowd was insane to say the least, as they literally sang every word to every song. The women were going crazy, and the guys were rapping every lyric as if they were on stage. I have seen many, many artists live in an intimate setting, but I am always amazed at what an artist gives his or her fans. It was as if J Cole was singing personally to each and every person in the audience. Perfect timing considering Ayelet and James White are impacting his new single “She Knows” this coming week. They are also doing a tremendous job with Juicy J’s “Bounce It,” which climbs inside the Top 25 with an increase of 180 spins. Remember last month when there was a stretch where it seemed like everything was up on the chart? Well what comes up, must come down. On this morning’s (Tuesday) real time chart, only three records from #10-21 are up. So who will be the next #1 record?… John Strazza and RCA would like to make it Chris Brown f/Nicki Minaj’s “Love More.” It’s sitting at #3 this week, with both records ahead of him coming down. Strazza, Inca, and Lori G feel like there is a two week window to achieve their goal. That would be a great way to end their year! They are also finishing the year strong with Justin Timberlake’s “T.K.O” at #13, Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” at #20, Kid Ink f/Chris Brown’s “Show Me” at #23 and up 269 spins, T Pain’s “Up Down” at #30 and Pitbull f/Ke$sha’s “Timber,” having the highest debut this week at #34 with an increase of 218 spins… Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer, and Scott Maness at IDJ are closing out the year on a high note as well. With the yearly Rhythm Chart share lead firmly in hand, they continue to grind with Jay Z’s “Tom Ford” at #12 and up 200 spins, August Alsina’s “I Luv This Sh*t” at #16 and Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” at #17. Iggy Azalea sits just outside the chart at #42, and Maejor Ali f/Juicy J & Justin Bieber’s “Lolly” is at #43. They’re impacting YG f/Jeezy & Rich Homie Quan’s “My Hitta” this week, which looks to have a solid week, sitting at #45, and is at #22 on the Urban chart… Gary Spangler and Davey Dee at Republic currently have four records in the Top 10. Drake f/Majid Jordan’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” at #1, Lorde’s “Royals” at #2, Ariana Grande f/Big Sean’s “Right There” at #7 and Sage The Gemini’s “Gas Pedal” at #9. In addition, they have Drake’s “All Me” at #21, as well as Tyga f/Justin Bieber’s “Wait For A Minute” at #41 and up 248 spins. Also looking to debut this coming week is yet another Drake, entitled “The Language.” It’s at #46 and up a very healthy 333 spins… With Rachael Spangler about to come back from maternity leave, the timing is perfect for Epic to impact Future f/Miley Cyrus’ new “Real And True.” The buzz on this track has been great, as stations like KSFM, WRDW, WJMN, KLUC, KYLD, and WPGC already committed. And the video is a must see. They also have Ciara’s “Overdose” climbing the chart and looking to debut in the next few weeks… Lee L’Heureux and WB are bound and determined to maximize Macklemore’s “White Walls.” It hops into the Top 5 this week and was up 377 spins, with no signs of slowing down. He also continues to build Jason Derulo’s “Marry Me,” which is currently at #27.
