CROSSOVER
We’re down to four official reporting days until we wrap up 2013. January 2014 signifies another year to break new artists. Looking back at this past year, there were a few significant artists that really put a stamp on the year. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis took not only the Rhythm Chart, but also the Pop chart by storm, and really became a core artist for our format. Lorde, although only having 1 official single this year, looks to be off to the races as another artist that everyone will be playing a lot of in 2014. Ariana Grande, with her large built-in Nickelodeon fan base, had a break out year, and should be viewed as a core artist as well. And what about Miley Cyrus? She certainly gave us plenty to talk about. And her transition from Pop/teen superstar to Rhythm bad girl has been a success so far. She has had two big records, huge sales numbers and has current tracks with the likes of Future, Mike Will, Juicy J, etc. It will be interesting to see what artists make 2014 their year… One sure way of ending the year on a strong note is to have 4 of the Top 10 records on the Rhythm chart. And that’s just what Republic has right now. Gary Spangler and Davey Dee have Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” at #1, Lorde’s “Royals” at #2, Sage The Gemini’s “Gas Pedal” at #8 and Ariana Grande f/Big Sean’s “Right There” at #9. In addition, Drake’s “All Me” is inside the Top 20, Drake’s “The Language” is this weeks biggest debut at #32 and Tyga f/Justin Bieber’s “Wait For A Minute” debuts this week at #41. Sage The Gemini’s “Red Nose” is at #44. They’re impacting SoMo’s “Ride” this week, which looks to have a number of believers… Not far behind, IDJ has 3 records in the Top 10. Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer, and Scott Maness have Jay Z’s “Holy Grail” at #5, Big Sean’s “Beware” is at #7 and Jay Z’s “Tom Ford” cracks the Top 10. They also debut YG f/Jeezy & Rich Homie Quan’s “My Hitta” this week at #39, as well as Iggy Azalea f/T.I.’s “Change Your Life” at #40. Maejor Ali f/Juicy J & Justin Bieber’s “Lolly” and Rick Ross’ “No Games” sit at #’s 41 and 42 respectfully… At RCA, Strazz, Inca and Lori G are pushing hard to take Chris Brown’s “Love More” to #1 this week. They also have Justin Timberlake’s “TKO” at #11, Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” at #18, Kid Ink f/Chris Brown’s “Show Me” at #22, Pitbull f/Ke$ha’s “Timber” surging to #27 and among the most increased, and T Pain’s “Up Down” at #28… Ayelet and James White at Columbia continue to build Juicy J’s “Bounce It,” which moves to #24 this week. They also have “All Of Me” by John Legend. This is looking like a special record in the sense that when virtually any market that gives it a spin, there’s an instant sales spike, as well as calls and texts asking who it is and the name of the song. Do yourself a favor and give this a few midday spins and watch the magic happen. Make sure to check out the new single from Vice f/Mike Taylor, "World Is Our Playground," which is already getting strong airplay from WPTY (moves to power rotation) and the dance leaders BPM and WEDX. The new video premiered this week on MTVEpic’s Rachael Spangler gets back from maternity leave next week, and walks into a red hot record in Future f/Miley Cyrus’ “Real And True.” Dixie Tipton and staff have this record poised to chart in the next week or so. They also have Ciara’s “Overdose,” which is just outside of the chart, and Yo Gotti’s “Cold Blood” is impacting this week… Nick P at Glassnote offers up Childish Gambino’s “3005.” Make sure to spend some time with this one, and definitely check out the video!... At WB, Lee L’Heureux has Macklemore at #4 and still going. It was up over 300 spins as it eyes the #1 slot. He also has Jason Derulo inside the Top 25 now.
