Let the games begin--nd I’m actually not talking about the ones in Austin at SXSW, although I wouldn’t mind some barbeque from Franklin or The Salt Lick. Printed your bracket yet? And how many do you do? Me, I fill out two: one serious one and one with all the long shots, just for fun. I love March Madness.
And now it's on to the promotion games.
Republic’s CW, Spangler and Russell have once again claimed the #1 spot on the chart with Taylor Swift’s “Style” (Big Machine). Natalie La Rose f/Jeremih’s “Somebody” has moved into the Top 10 with Ariana Grande sitting at #11, ready to make the move. Nick Jonas’ “Chains” (Island) is not far behind and continues to grow. (Don’t miss Nick as the host of the Kids’ Choice Awards 3/38.) The Weeknd’s “Earned It” was one of this week’s Greatest Gainers; it’s #7 on the iTunes chart and Top 5 on the Spotify chart, while all the stations moves this one to power and it heads Top 10. Kalin & Myles’ “Trampoline” has some big early supporters in KAMP, WBMP, KYLD and KHTS.
Epic’s Team Glassman is launching the newest track from Meghan Trainor, “Dear Future Husband.” With over 1.5m singles already sold on this one, they should be off to the races. Fifth Harmony’s “Worth It” is already on over 70 stations and sits at #36 this week. Life of Dillon’s “Overload” should chart this week with some big help from the Cumulus add that just came in.
Capitol’s Reese, Rainey, Youngblood and Siciliano have Tori Kelly running all over the country and it seems to be working, as “Nobody Love” moves Top 20 this week. Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down” already has KZON and WNOW on the board for this week and is continuing to climb. Eden XO’s “The Weekend” picked up 14 new adds last week, including WRVQ, WERO and WHHD.
WIHT PD Tommy Chuck, Tori Kelly, Capitol's Joe Rainey
Hollywood’s Finck and Smith launched R5’s “Let’s Not Be Alone Tonight” last week and picked up 25+ adds including KDIS, WBBM and WAKS. And tonight, on DWTS, Riker (from R5) will make his dancing debut.
RAL’s Weil and Halpern continue to pick up believers on Shaggy f/Mohombi/Faydee/Costi’s “I Need Your Love.” Moving the track up in rotation this week are WNOW, KYLD and WHQC.
Warner Bros.’ Gray, Dyer, Reich and Shih set records, according to Mediabase, with adds on Jason Derulo’s “Want to Want Me” (Beluga Heights); the track is already #23 and quickly climbing. Echosmith’s “Bright“ continues to build, moving Top 30 this week.
RCA’s Riccitelli, JR, Strazza, Daddio and Cooper continue to see Pitbull f/Ne-Yo’s “Time of Our Lives” in the Greatest Gainer column. The track is still selling and Shazaming. That’s a word, right? Usher f/Juicy J’s “I Don’t Mind” is in power rotation at WODS, WNRW and KTFM and continuing to sell strong in airplay markets. Kelly Clarkson had the #1 album last week and lead single “Heartbeat Song” is now Top 20 on the chart. Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance” picked up major-market adds last week in KHTS, WKST and WHBQ. Sia’s “Elastic Heart” is expanding her list of impressive call letters with KAMP, KUDD and KHTS all coming on board last week.
Over at Def Jam, Sackheim, Chester, Rothchild and Farag picked up 15 new stations last week on Iggy Azalea f/Jennifer Hudson’s “Trouble.” Look for a media blitz over the next couple of weeks with appearances on Kids’ Choice Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards and American Idol. Axwell ^Ingrosso’s “Something New” is new at WZFT, KWNW and WKCI. Look for a big launch next week on Alesso’s “Cool.”
Columbia’s Leipsner, Borris and Vaughan are off to a great start on George Ezra’s “Budapest,” which charted this week. It already has some big research stories already in Nashville, Orlando and Philly, and they just confirmed an SNL performance for 3/28. One Direction’s “Night Changes” (SYCO) picks up Z100 and WPLW, as it climbs to #14. Calvin Harris f/Ellie Goulding’s “Outside” is just short of clearing the panel as it continues to grow inside the Top 10. LunchMoney Lewis’ “Bills” is showing all the signs of a hit with radio driving sales in airplay markets.
