GLAAD TO HONOR HUDSON, PECK

The GLAAD Media Awards will honor Jennifer Hudson with its Excellence in Media Award and country artist Orville Peck with the Vito Russo Award at the 35th annual trophyfest. The ceremony, hosted by producer-TV personality Ross Mathews, will take place 5/11 in NYC.

“Jennifer Hudson’s allyship is thoughtful, loud and powerful,” said GLAAD President/CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “She champions our community on her talk show by regularly shining a bright light on inspiring LGBTQ changemakers for audiences everywhere.”

The Jennifer Hudson Show is nominated for Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode this year for the episode “Jennifer Hudson Surprises HIV Activist with $10,000.”

Peck, meanwhile, is being recognized as an LGBTQ media professional who has made a significant difference to accelerating LGBTQ acceptance. Previous honorees include Billy Porter, Anderson Cooper, RuPaul and Ricky Martin.

“Orville Peck has paved a new frontier for artists in a genre historically exclusionary of queer voices,” Ellis asserted. “By boldly navigating country music as an out gay man and collaborating with legends like Willie Nelson and Lady Gaga, he has cemented himself in the industry and showed our community that we belong in all spaces.”

GLAAD has already announced the recipients of awards in 16 of this year’s 33 categories, which included Oprah Winfrey and Niecy Nash-Betts. The L.A. ceremony, held in March, was hosted by Wayne Brady and featured performances by Chlöe and Kate Hudson. Learn more here.
