U.K. MIDWEEKS: SAM SMITH SENSES SIXTH #1

Sam Smith is naturally heading toward #1 in his home country as “Too Good at Goodbyes” (Capitol) sails to the top of Spotify’s U.K. Top 50, the iTunes chart and the Official Singles midweek tally. Over on albums, The National are eyeing their first ever #1.

Smith is currently outselling Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” (Warner Bros.) by 2:1. Should it hold onto its midweek peak, Smith’s first single in two years will be his sixth #1 in Blighty. (His hits have included tracks on his debut album, a James Bond theme tune, a Red Nose Day charity track and as a featured artist with Naughty Boy.)

The second highest new singles entry this week could be Zayn’s collab with Sia, “Dusk Till Dawn” (RCA), which enters at #5. Taylor Swift is down to #4 with “Look What You Made Me Do” (Virgin EMI) and P!nk stays at #3 with “What About Us” (RCA).

Further down, Logic is set to score his debut U.K. Top 40 with suicide prevention themed single “1-800-273-8255” f/Alessia Cara and Khalid (Virgin EMI) .

On the Official Albums midweek chart, The National's Sleep Well Beast (4AD) is currently outselling the second album from RCA band Nothing But Thieves. The latter is 6k combined sales behind at #2 with Broken Machine, followed by Neil Young’s Hitchhiker (Reprise) at #3.
