HITS Daily Double

Google put together an extraordinary tribute to honor the 44th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop, which took place on 8/11/73, when DJ Kool Herc threw his now-legendary Back to School party in the Boogie Down Bronx.

The interactive "Google Doodle" gives a brief history lesson narrated by the legendary Fab Five Freddy about the music and its associated branches of the culture such as dance, art and fashion that, in the 44 years since its existence, hip-hop has overwhelmingly influenced.

The Doodle then gives you the chance to act as your own DJ, in what could only be described as one of the tech giant's very best interactive experiences.

In July, Nielsen Music released its annual mid-year report that revealed for the first time in music's history, hip-hop had surpassed rock & roll as the most popular form of music.

Meanwhile, Lyor is still trying to figure out what "the Google" is.
