U.K. MIDWEEKS: UMG VAMPS UP ALBUMS CHART

It’s a top week for new U.K. music from David Joseph’s Universal in the Official Albums stakes as boy band The Vamps start at #1 with third album, Night & Day (Virgin EMI), and alt-pop duo Oh Wonder at #3 with their second, Ultralife (Island), at the midweek stage.

The Vamps are currently outselling Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Atlantic) by 2:1. If the band hold onto the top spot, it will be their first #1. Night & Day is a two-parter—a follow-up titled Day Edition (the current is Night) will be released in in December.

Ultralife's predecessor was Oh Wonder’s self-titled debut, released via a label services deal with Caroline International in 2015; it peaked at #26. Grime MC Bugzy Malone is at #4 with his self-released King of the North (Ill Gotten) and Rag’n’Bone Man is #5 with Human (Columbia).

Other high new entries include former X Factor winner Joe McElderry with his fifth and first independently released studio album, Saturday Night at the Movies (BK Records), at #6, while John Denver starts at #7 with The Ultimate Collection (Sony).

Over on the Official Singles midweek list, DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller's "Wild Thoughts" (Black Butter/We The Best) has overtaken “Despacito” (Polydor) at #1 by 1.3k combined sales. The track looks set to be Khaled’s second U.K. #1 this year following “I’m the One.”

"Feels" (Columbia) from Calvin Harris f/Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry andBig Sean has risen one place to #3, followed by “Unforgettable” (Black Butter) by French Montana f/Swae Lee at #4 and “Mama” (Virgin EMI) by Jonas Blue at #5. This week’s highest new entry is currently “Rain” (Sony) by Irish trio The Script, which enters at #17.
