A BIG HIT

The numbers are in on last week’s Katy Perry Witness livestream, and they’re mind-blowing. During the four days, the unscripted, unfiltered real-time documentary was viewed by 49 million people, MTV News reports.

The story compares that staggering total to that of Perry’s "Bon Appétit" video, which has been viewed 169m times in the four weeks it’s has been up on YouTube, noting that “If you break that down on a day-by-day scale, the Witness livestream did pretty damn well.” In other words, MTV wants you to do the math.

In another indication of Katy’s ability to connect on a massive scale, early this morning, she became the first person to reach 100m Twitter followers. A member since 2009, Katy has posted more than 8k tweets, the most popular of which was “IF ONE DIRECTION DOESN'T PERFORM ON THE VMA'S I AM GONNA JUMP OFF THIS LEDGE,” which received 132k re-tweets.
